The 19th Annual Coastal Classic Celebrity Golf Tournament, presented again by First Citizens Bank, will be held this Friday, April 29, 2011 and Saturday, April 30, 2011. It is the premier charity golf event in Southeastern North Carolina. The 2010. Over the past years the Coastal Classic has brought some of the biggest names in sports, screen, and music to Wilmington. Throughout the years, Coastal Classic has raised more than $2.2 million to support New Hanover Regional Medical Center. This year’s Tournament will continue that tradition of fun, entertainment and of course, great golf!
The proceeds from last year’s Tournament were used to benefit Cardiac Services at New Hanover Regional Medical Center with the purchase of an Arctic Sun. This equipment is critical in the treatment of patients as it rapidly reduces body temperature and helps reduce the risk of injury to the brain following a period of insufficient blood flow caused by cardiac arrest, stroke, or brain trauma. The Arctic Sun is credited with reducing mortality rates among cardiac arrest patients by 35%.
