Floating Lantern Ceremony: Jan 12th

Imagine hundreds of paper lanterns floating on water and glowing warmly from their individual source of flickering light – a candle’s flame. Together, they become a soulful display of community spirit. CAM’s Floating Lantern Ceremony is an opportunity for expressions of Remembrance, Reflection and Gratitude. Participants are encouraged to personalize a paper lantern sleeve to float on CAM’s reflecting pond.

Lantern sleeves are available for purchase ($12 through Jan. 11, $15 on Jan. 12) throughout the ceremony.

Live music and demonstrations inside the museum and on the grounds enhance the late afternoon/early evening activities. This is an outisde activity; the museum and exhibitions will remain open until 7 PM. Food and beverage available for purchase. All exhibitions including Illumination are open at no charge, donations are appreciated.

Carolina Beach State Park Trail Half Marathon & 5K: Dec. 28th

Carolina Beach State Park Half Marathon & 5K is a grassroots, locally owned and operated, trail race in Carolina Beach, NC. With 13.1 and 3.1 mile courses, all levels of speed and ability are allotted an opportunity to race in one of the most unique setting in North Carolina. With rolling pine laced single track along the coast, participants have tons of interesting terrain to take-in while they put out max effort for unique prizes.

Island of Lights New Year’s Eve Celebration: Dec. 31st

The New Year’s Celebration is always held on New Year’s Eve and begins at 9 PM. The location rotates between Carolina & Kure Beaches. Don’t miss the giant beach ball being dropped at midnight followed by a spectacular fireworks demonstration.

This free family-friendly event will feature a DJ and dancing with refreshments and party favors available for purchase. In an Island of Lights tradition there will be a raffle, with the winner taking home the original artwork for the Island of Lights 2019 official Christmas card and ornament.

Wrightsville Beach Jingle Bell Run: Dec. 14th

Wrightsville Beach Jingle Bell Run

The Wrightsville Beach Museum presents the 9th annual Jingle Bell Run on December 14th at 9 am, a 5K race at which participants are encouraged to dress in holiday apparel (i.e. Santa costumes, antlers, snowmen). Prizes for Best Overall Holiday Costume, Best Group Holiday Costume, Best Family Holiday Costume, Best Decorated Stroller, and Best Pet Costume.

For 11 years, the Jingle Bell Run has been the signature fundraiser for the Wrightsville Beach Museum of History. Historic cottages and beautiful winter marshes are part of the scenery participants get to experience during this 3 mile race that benefits a special museum. This will be a celebratory, holiday event, so race participants are encouraged to dress in holiday apparel (Santa costumes, antlers, snow men, etc.). Dogs can also compete in the costume category! The museum wants to continue to build on the success of this wonderful community event for the town of Wrightsville Beach. Come be a part of it this December!

The 5K Jingle Bell Run and Walk features a course around The Loop with a view of historic cottages and winter marshes. Proceeds benefit the Wrightsville Beach Museum of History.

The race both begins and ends at the Museum.

Dashing Through the Glow 5K: Dec. 7th

RiverLights™ welcomes you to the Dashing Thru The Glow 5K. Join us as we bring together the Christmas spirit, family fun, and entertainment. Experience the beautiful views of the Cape Fear River and the new RiverLights community. 

Take pictures next to the Christmas Tree and meet Santa himself! The elves will be at the finish line passing out Commemorative Finisher Medals to all the good little boys and girls who finish the 5K and 1 Mile. To make this event even better, everyone receives a Santa Hat, cookies, and more!

The course begins and ends in the RiverLights community in Wilmington, NC. The course is a flat course that winds through the living community showing off the beauty of the area. While on course, participants will be able to enjoy all of the Christmas lights. At the finish line, participants will be greeted by Santa’s Elves giving out a Commemorative Medal!

This race course is also stroller friendly! However, dogs are not allowed on this course so please leave them at home or with a non-running spectator.

Toys for Tots helps less fortunate children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas; to play an active role in the development of one of our nation’s most valuable resources – our children; to unite all members of local communities in a common cause for 3 months each year during the annual toy collection and distribution campaign; and to contribute to better communities in the future.
