Airlie Concert Series

The Imitations will be closing out the last of the Summer Airlie Garden Concert Series on September 21st at 6pm. All general admission parking is offsite. Free shuttles are provided from the old Cinema 6 parking lot at 5335 Oleander Drive from 6-8pm.

The Wilmington based group is the perfect band to finish out the summer with their selections from Kool and the Gang to the Temptations to Elvis and the Beach Boys. So come out and enjoy the last sounds of the summer with The Imitations. Admission for the event is $2.00-$8.00

Chords for a Cause

Edwin McCain performed at the inaugural Chords for a Cause fundraiser with the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra in 2009.He’ll be back at Trask Coliseum this year for an Oct. 27 date with 2003 Grammy Award nominee Vanessa Carlton. McCain recorded the hit single “I’ll Be,” while Carlton’s biggest single was “A Thousand Miles.”

The show will also include an appearance by the Hoggard High School Voyagers choir.

Chords for a Cause was founded by Damian Brezinski to unite classical and popular musicians on stage to raise money for local causes. To date, it has raised more than $250,000 for a pediatric ambulance, Mission Ready and the Betty H. Cameron Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

This year, the concert will benefit New Hanover Regional Medical Center and Carolina Canines for Service.

Tickets are $20-$40 and will be available starting at noon July 30 at www.chordsforacause.com.

11th Annual Oktoberfest Fri. & Sat.

The 11th Annual Oktoberfest of Wilmington, which falls on October 19^th & 20^th this year, is held at the New Hanover County Government Center (the Break Time Billiards and Ten Pin Alley parking lot), and includes authentic German food and beer, a kid’s zone, Weiner Dog Races, and live music by The Harbour Towne Fest Band. Proceeds benefit Pretty in Pink Foundation.

The event begins Friday at 5pm and on Saturday at 10am. The admission is $5 per person. Come out and celebrate October the right way!

6th Annual Port City Rumble

The 6th Annual Port City Rumble is being held October 13^th. The Port City Rumble features a free car show on the top level of the Riverfront parking deck in downtown Wilmington, NC. This event is put on each year by the Maulers Car Club.

Some of the best-looking hot-rods and chopper bikes from all over the state will be there. There will also be a live music at The Soapbox beginning at 9pm ($10 admission fee). The famous Creeper race begins at 2pm. Don’t miss this great event.

Wilmington’s Canine 5K

Love going for a run with your dog? The Canine 5k on Dec. 1^st at 8am hosted by McColl & Associates at Mayfaire’s TrySports Field in Wilmington, NC, allows runners to compete with their furry friends or solo. This is a flat fast course around Mayfaire Town Center, Proceeds benefit the Karma Foundation. Click here to REGISTER ONLINE. The registration fee is $15-$30

There is a limit of one dog per person. The dog must be at least six months old, must be up to date on vaccinations, well-trained, well-behaved, and must be kept on the leash at all times. Leashes may not be longer than six feet and may not be a retractable leash. Please also avoid participating if your dog is in heat.

The Christmas Open House

On December 2nd come visit the Christmas Open House at Poplar Grove Plantation in Wilmington, NC from noon to 5pm. It is a charming gateway to old fashioned holiday spirit.
