An Evening at the Fort: Nov. 2nd

Friends of Fort Fisher present An Evening at the Fort on November 2nd, 2019 from 5pm to 7pm, an outdoor event in the shadow of the Fort Fisher trees.

The event features drinks and food from tastes from local restaurants including Cape Fear Seafood, Nollie’s Tacos, Havanas Restaurant, Michael’s Seafood, Jack Mackerel’s Island Grill, Southerly Biscuit & Pie, and Joe’s Oasis.

There will be live music with Sam Hatch and a night-time cannon firing. Admission for the event is $40 per person, or $25 for members of Friends of Fort Fisher.

Proceeds benefit Fort Fisher State Historic Site through the Friends of Fort Fisher.

Cape Fear Kite Festival: Nov. 2nd – 3rd

The 11th Annual Cape Fear Kite Festival features two days of kite-flying madness as participants from all over display their colorful flyers on the beach at Fort Fisher State Recreation Area in Kure Beach, NC.

On November 2nd & 3rd, 2019 from 10am-4pm, we will be filling the sky with color from countless kites of unbelievable sizes and styles! So bring your best kite and let it sail in the sky!

The weather is still typically great that time of year, so come on down! Admission for this event is free!

Surf to Sound SUP Challenge: Nov. 2nd-3rd

The Annual NC Surf-to-Sound Challenge in Wrightsville Beach, NC, will be held from November 2nd to November 3rd, 2019 at the Blockade Runner Beach Resort. The challenge features standup paddle (SUP) races for advanced, intermediate and children as well as a paddle surf contest

The Surf to Sound race is actually an entire weekend of fun for the whole family at the Blockade Runner in Wrightsville Beach. The race is presented by the Wrightsville Beach Paddle Club, organizers of the Carolina Cup.

Cape Fear Fair & Expo: Nov. 1st-10th

The Cape Fear Fair and Expo is coming back to town! County fairs have been bringing friends together to celebrate the end of summer. Just mentioning a county fair can bring to mind images of livestock, crafts, sticky cotton candy, balloons, clowns, and the laughter of young and old alike.

Now in its 55th year, the Cape Fear Fair & Expo at Wilmington International Airport includes livestock exhibits and competitions, acrobats, horticultural contests, rides, children’s activities, food, family fun, and live entertainment.

The fair begins November 1st, 2019 and goes through November 10th, 2019. The fair will be held next to the Wilmington International Airport and tickets will be available for purchase at the event.

Regular Admission is $22 per person. A Walk Around Ticket is available for $5 and at the gate; it excludes rides and is only valid Monday through Thursday.

Friday: 5 pm to Midnight
Saturday: Noon to Midnight
Sunday: 1 pm-11 pm.

Art in the Arboretum: Nov. 1st – 3rd

Join us November 1st-3rd from 10 am to 4 pm each day for Art in the Arboretum. An annual fall event fills the gardens with art and music for a weekend. The event, sponsored by the Friends of the New Hanover County Arboretum and the Wilmington Art Association, features local artists’ works, including paintings, prints, pottery, sculpture, and other media.

You will find art throughout the gardens and also in the gallery. A raffle, and live auction and performances by local musicians also will be featured. Save the date and plan to attend one of the largest outdoor gatherings of art and music in the area. New this year artwork from local schools, Artisan Ave with boutique art and also performance artists will perform within the gardens.

Don’t forget to buy your tickets for the Flower party on Saturday night!

Admission is $5 at the gate and FREE for Active Military, FOA members and Children under 12.

Once again, attendees will cast their ballots for his or her favorite 2D and 3D works. Award ribbons for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners, in each category, will be awarded. Who doesn’t love to get a ribbon of honor! But winners will also have the registration fee waived for next year’s show. People’s choice balloting will be on Friday and Saturday. This is a great opportunity not only for the artists who are participating in this lovely fall event but also for the art appreciators in attendance to have a voice.

Battleship Half Marathon, 10K and 5K: Nov. 3rd

Runners, get ready for the trek through downtown Historic Wilmington, North Carolina with a Half Marathon, 10K or 5K! The Battleship Half Marathon started in 1998 and is one of the oldest Half Marathons in the South. We are excited for you to join us and run through Battleship History.

Moored in quiet dignity and majesty the Battleship NORTH CAROLINA, across the river from downtown Wilmington, beckons visitors to walk her decks. Envision the daily life and fierce combat her crew faced in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. From all across our Nation they came, young men who had grown up in the crucible of the Great Depression and now determined to serve their Country in its time of need. These are the men whose stories you will encounter through their oral histories, photographs, and mementos as you experience the Ship and the exhibits. Step back in time and let history come alive through the crews’ stories. Imagine yourself steering the ship, starting her engines or even firing the guns. JOIN THE CREW and be a part of Battleship history at the Battleship NORTH CAROLINA!

What: This is where you can come pickup your race bib, get race information, visit exhibitors, enjoy a Pasta Dinner on the Battleship and explore the Battleship, NC

Where: Hotel Ballast Wilmington, By Hilton (Start on the Riverwalk)
Morning Pickup: 6:00am to 7:30am
13.1 and 10K Start: 8:00am
5K Start: 8:10am
Finish: Hotel Ballast on the Riverwalk
Post Race Celebration: Hotel Ballast on the Riverwalk until 12:00pm

COURSE CUTOFF TIMES
Half Marathoners have 3:30:00 to complete the race. After 3:30:00 runners will be asked to turn their bib to the course marshal. We will no longer have traffic control, or volunteers on the course after this time period. If it is looking like you will not make it, we will give you a heads up or warning first to speed up. There is no specific cutoff for the 10K or 5K as long as runners are off the roads by 11:00 for those 2 races.

TRASH
It is a violation to throw your trash on the course outside of an aid station. If you have gel packs, cups, or anything of this nature, please use our aid stations to dispose. We have basketball hoop trash cans at each aid station. Do your best to score a nice shot! This not only helps keep our city clean but helps give the runners behind you a positive experience by not having to run over trash.

COURSE ETIQUETTE
Follow the instructions of our course volunteers. We strongly suggest not using headphones it is very important for you to be able to hear any directions of our course volunteers.

NO BIKE OR RUN PACING
Please tell your friends and family they cannot bike pace or run pace you on the course. Based on USATF Rule 144 no runner shall be paced by another runner NOT registered in the race. Therefore if you wish to get paced, you must be paced by a registered participant that starts with the race and has purchased a bib. If you are caught without a bib pacing a runner, the runner you are pacing will be disqualified.
